We lost our first game of the year due to goals scored by Vesga and Paredes. In Quique Sánchez Flores’s debut at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Athletic Club won 2-0 thanks to goals in each half.

Pre match

This Thursday, in La Liga, Athletic Club will face Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. If Sevilla can continue their strong start under new manager Quique Sanchez Flores, we’ll take that into account while making our Sevilla vs. Athletic Bilbao prediction.

To far in La Liga 2023–24, 75% of Athletic’s road games have ended with a scoreless draw.
The absence of Inaki Williams, a crucial forward who has been in sensational form this season with eight goals, is another setback for the visitors.

Our Sevilla vs. Athletic Bilbao betting tips take into account the fact that Sevilla’s defence has been much improved in Sanchez Flores’s first two games as manager. The team has only allowed in one goal.
An away victory for Athletic Bilbao seems like the most likely result based on the Sevilla vs. Athletic Bilbao odds, but with three equally plausible possibilities, picking one is tough.

The implied likelihood of backing Both Teams to Score is 54.5%, and the odds are 5/6 (1.83). Youssef En Nesyri of Sevilla, however, is the slight favourite to score first at 5/1 (6.00), with a probability of 16.7%.

Sevilla FC Sporting Bilbao 1-1

In this Sevilla vs. Athletic Bilbao matchup, we see a rematch of the 1-1 draws that occurred in Athletic’s last two league road games.
The most common home score for Sevilla this year is 1-1, which has happened three times in La Liga.
This season, four of Sanchez Pizjuan’s nine La Liga matches have ended in a tie.
On the other hand, the home team has been coping with a major injury crisis and needed the break more than anyone else.

As the players tried to readjust to the damp surroundings, the first twenty minutes were quite quiet. The rain had been pounding down from above. Both teams had chances to score, but the visitors were the ones that threatened most. At the start of the game, Athletic had a great opportunity to take advantage of our wide areas thanks to Berenguer and Nico Williams. From the left side of the box, Guruzeta received a pass from Sancet. He nimbly swung inside, but a diving Dmitrovic pushed his shot from 18 yards past the far post.

A second opportunity for the guests arrived not long after. As Athletic swiftly advanced the ball upfield, the wide men worked nicely together. Surprisingly, Williams missed the target after Berenguer’s dangerous pass split our defence and found him with just the custodian to beat. Very disappointing.
But Athletic’s persistent pressure paid off just before halftime, as they went ahead. Mikel Vesga was left with acres of open to run into after De Galarreta sent in a cross from the right side. He headed the ball back across Dmitrovic’s body with ease, and the custodian remained still.

Unfortunately, our already lengthy injury list took a further hit as Gudelj hobbled out just before halftime. In an effort to balance the playing field, Rakitic came on as a substitute. Before halftime, the away team had a 1-0 lead.

We were on the verge of dozing off when the second half began. Nico Williams sent a crashing shot from the outskirts of the box that hit the crossbar in the first minute of the second half. Our right back miskicked the ball, and a flurry of activity erupted in the goalmouth as the ball rolled to Juanlu. The fans were finally able to catch their breath when, amidst all the mayhem, Sancet had an attempt saved by Badé off the line and Williams missed the target. This is even more disappointing than what Quique Sánchez Flores had hoped for after his team talk at halftime.

We came out stronger in the second half, but we couldn’t find the equaliser.
Maybe this was the reality check everyone needed. In the 49th minute, we eventually had our best chance of the game when Juanlu, who was at the back post, poked the ball wide after it had rebounding off the crossbar. In the fifteen minutes that followed, we had further scoring chances, but Ramos, Suso, Mir, and Salas all missed them. Suso had the best chance, but his looping shot from the edge of the box just missed the far post.Around the 73rd minute mark, Unai Simon faced the match’s first serious test. He recovered quickly to stop a low shot from Kike Salas and then denied a rebound attempt from Rafa Mir.
Athletic took a commanding lead in the 76th minute thanks to a neat finish from Paredes as the equaliser remained elusive. After receiving a cross from Ander Herrera on the right, Paredes, who was positioned in the middle of the box, skillfully placed the ball into the bottom corner. Dmitrovic has no chance and the away team has a two-goal lead.

Game over with no further noteworthy opportunities. Returning to Bilbao with all three points, the visitors advance to the Champions League qualifying round. Our team will go to Ferrol for the Copa del Rey on Tuesday and then return to Nervión to take on Deportivo Alaves on Friday; we are now in 16th place, one point above the relegation zone.
